Attila Balogh

I am an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Melbourne. Prior to my appointment, I was a postdoctoral associate at Cornell University’s Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. I earned a Ph.D. from UNSW Sydney and spent two years of my doctoral studies at the University of Oxford Saïd Business School as a visiting scholar.

I study corporate governance and biodiversity finance to understand how firms and markets navigate complex risks, evolving stakeholder expectations, and shifting institutional frameworks. My research investigates how organizations process and disclose information, and how they respond—strategically and structurally—to both voluntary and mandated pressures, from board oversight to environmental dependencies. By examining governance structures, data systems, and the design of disclosure regimes, I focus on decision-making under complexity, generating insights that inform corporate decision-making and contribute to policy and regulatory conversations about the purpose of the firm in society.
